The Federal Government has announced a discount on petrol dispensed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) for an initial 30 days, with priority given to public transporters nationwide.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, announced the measure during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Oyedele said the arrangement involves selling petrol at cost and does not constitute a subsidy.
“It is not a subsidy. Government is saying we will sell to you at cost price,” he said.
