WHY WE ARE SHOWCASING NIGER DELTA GIRL-CHILD – FOGI

By Isaac Olamikan

The Creative Director of Face of Gbaramatu International (FOGI) 2019, Elizabeth Tonghan, has stated that the showstopper scheduled for Sunday, March 31st, 2019, at the highbrow events centre, KFT Place in Warri, is aimed at showcasing the talents of the Niger Delta girl-child – the girls in the creek of the Niger Delta – and the challenges they face.

“The girls in the rural communities of the Niger Delta are facing series of challenges in contrast to the boys.

“If a boy of 16 years of age impregnates a girl of the same age, the boy can continue living his life and his education is not affected.

“For the girl, the story is different. Her lifestyle is affected. She has to go through the issue of staying at home to nurture the child after birth.

“This may take another two to three years. Thereafter, she may not be able to cope with furthering he education.

“This explains why the FOGI 2019 is focusing on the girl-child in the Niger Delta region so as to inform, educate and enlighten the public,” she posited.

She came up with a teaser for the guests coming for the show.

“FOGI 2019 is not just about beauty. It is also about brains. We intend to test the intelligence of the girls, how they handle simple tasks assigned to them without fear and also how they overcome stage fright.”
