…Gov to meet with Ijaw leaders today in Benin
A statement by the leadership of Ijaw Freedom Fighters, IFF, a coalition of all Ijaw Freedom Fighters in Six States in the Niger Delta area, has announced a temporary suspension of attacks on the Oba of Benin palace and Edo State Government House over the derogatory statements made by Governor Obaseki and Oba of Benin following appeals by Ijaw leaders in Edo and Delta States.
The statement signed by the group’s spokesperson, Commander Keme Boudiwei and National leader, Commander Seimokoromor Anthony.
The statement reads; “We temporarily suspend the twenty one- day ultimatum given to the Edo State Government and Oba of Benin palace.
”The resolution to withdraw our ultimatum followed the pleas from well-meaning Ijaw leaders not to attack because it will further put the State in a bad spotlight.
”The pleas from the Ijaw stakeholders from Edo state and other Ijaw leaders in other states cannot just be neglected. Hence we decided to temporarily suspend the ultimatum.
”The Edo State Government has listened to us and has decided to meet with our leadership tomorrow (today) at the Edo State Government House.
It will be recalled that the group has last month, issued a 21-day ultimatum to both the Governor of Edo State and the paramount monarch of the ancient city of Benin, over some statements which were credited to them.
These has irked the group and its members have issued the ultimatum to both personalities, to retract same.
The group promised to issue a statement after today’s meeting with the governor.
”We will come out with fresh release after the meeting.
However, the group warned that it shall continue to protect its territory, no matter the outcome.
”We will continue to protect our territory, no matter the intimidation
”Long live Ijaw Nation!. Long live Ijaw Freedom Fighters!
