Several members of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in Egbema Kingdom, Edo state, are urging the Federal Government and the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to disregard opposition to the renewal of the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to the company.
Tantita Security Services Limited is owned by renowned former leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.
Tantita is credited with significant efforts in safeguarding the nation’s oil pipelines and apprehending numerous individuals involved in crude oil theft. There have been suggestions that Tantita has achieved feats beyond the capabilities of the country’s security forces.
Hon. David Osia, former Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State Governor on water security and one of the coordinators of Tantita Security in Egbema Kingdom, stated in an interview with GbaramatuVoice that the private firm has achieved substantial success by collaborating with the nation’s security agencies to increase daily crude oil production in the Niger Delta region.
He emphasized that pipeline surveillance, which involves local individuals close to the pipelines, has created job opportunities for many youths in the region. According to Hon. David, the contract has helped maintain peace in the Niger Delta region by involving young people in its operations, thereby reducing crime.
He urged the government not to hesitate in renewing Tantita’s pipeline surveillance contract, asserting that Tompolo is uniquely suited for the job.
“Tantita Security Services Limited has demonstrated its capacity through its track record. It has consistently upheld peace in the region by engaging youths in its operations. Renewing the contract will further enhance peace and boost crude oil production in the country,” he added.
