The Federal High Court sitting in Warri has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fully comply with the Supreme Court judgment on the fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency before the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
In a judgment delivered on Friday morning in open court, the court held that INEC must implement the Supreme Court decision affecting Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta State before any electoral process for the 2027 elections can validly proceed in the constituency.
The judgment followed a suit filed by Urhobo leaders in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/31/2026: CHIEF WESTHAM ADEHOR & ORS V. INEC, challenging INEC’s delay in complying with the apex court’s directive.
The plaintiffs argued that INEC’s continued failure to conclude and officially release the fresh ward delineation exercise amounts to a clear disobedience of the Supreme Court judgment and undermines the rule of law.
The case is linked to the Supreme Court judgment in SC/413/2016: Hon. George U. Timimini & Ors v. INEC (2022), which ordered fresh delineation of electoral wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency for the conduct of future elections.
The judgment marks a major development in the Warri ward delineation dispute ahead of 2027, with the court noting that attempts to stop the exercise, including the Itsekiri case, were dismissed.
