Why Delta State Government must address incessant kidnappings, robbery attacks along Effurun-Sapele Expressway

By GbaramatuVoice Editorial Board

For the past five months, there has been a heightened report about incessant armed robbery attacks on motorists and other innocent travelers along Effurun-Sapele Expressway, precisely at the two part of the road from Aziza junction to Adeje, parts of Sapele road, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta state.

Out of many such reports received by GbaramatuVoice from concerned citizens and other good spirited Nigerians, the newspaper, will for the purpose of this commentary present one as posted by Deacon Darlington Ogaga.

It reads in part; “You need to enter a public vehicle to hear tales of woes on that road. The drivers now prepare their passengers for the worst. Yesterday, a driver told us that only three days ago, two parts of the road from Aziza junction to Adeje were blocked from 8pm by robbers who took their time to dispose commuters of their valuables.

“Their mode of operation is to take your belongings and if they don’t find anything on you, they will take you. My wonder is why this is not on the news? We have the army barracks just a few miles away, we have other security installments all round, while is this ignored? He concluded.

While this trend ‘flourishes’, GbaramatuVoice is particularly concerned about two things.

First is the suspicious silence on the part of relevant security agencies operating within the area? It is a curious development that despite these litany of complaint, these security agencies, particularly men of the Nigeria Police Force, have not deemed necessary to tell Nigerians what has been done, or what they (security agencies) are doing currently to arrest this deteriorating security situation at this spot and in other parts of the country.

Also curious is the awareness that an army barracks and other relevant security apparatuses are just a few miles away from this referenced spot. Yet, robbers operate unhindered and in most cases, such robberies are never reported, investigated or any arrest made.

Very key, as the Chief Security Officer in the state, Deltans would like to know what Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is doing to arrest the rising spate of insecurity not just in the aforementioned location but the state as a whole.

While explanation to these requests is expected, GbaramatuVoice urges Governor Okowa to remember that provision of security and ensuring economic wellbeing of Deltans are the two constitutional responsibilities he swore to protect.

The newspaper therefore, calls on him to save Deltans particularly the unsuspecting commuters from the hands of criminals and men of the underworld.
