We want salary increment, good welfare package, protesting OML 42 workers tell NNPC/Neconde
Workers of NNPC Production and Exploration Limited/Neconde Energy, operators of Oil Mining Lease (OML) 42 on Thursday protested against the inability of the companies to meet their demands, warning that they will continue to disrupt and paralyze the flowstations until their demands are met.
The workers who protested in Warri lamented against the refusal of the NNPC/Neconde to prioritise their welfare adding that the company from time immemorial engage in the “promise and fail” technique just to make sure that the workers meet the target at the expense of the welfare of the workers.
Speaking with GbaramatuVoice, some of the workers said that many of them are in pain and financial distress as result of poor welfare, poor salary payment and such other issues despite their several years in the companies.
The aggrieved workers said that NNPC/Neconde are yet to review their contracts since 2017/2018 and this has deprived them of the necessary salary increment and welfare packages that will enable them to survive in the present inflation in the country.
The workers also lamented that the management is aware of their demands but they have chosen to ignore them. They also lamented that they are deprived of good food, good drinking water and other amenities that will make work easy for them.
According to available reports, management had promised since April last year 2022 that by August 2022 backlogs of salary will be paid and other issues will be looked into before the end of the year 2022.
According to workers, they were assured that the review of contracts particularly which will automatically tackle the issue of salary increment and HMO will be implemented by January 2023 but nothing has been done so far.
Currently the development has made the workers to shutdown the flowstations until their demands are met as the management is yet to bring their worries to an end.
