Hardship: Tompolo Appeals to Angry Nigerians to Shelve Planned Nationwide Protests

High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpomupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has been honored with an Award of Excellence by the staff of Nigeria Maritime University (NMU), Okerenkoko, in recognition of his significant contributions to the institution’s development and to humanity.

Mr. Iseru Ebike, a lecturer and leader of the university’s staff, presented the award, commending Tompolo’s unwavering dedication to the university’s growth. Ebike highlighted the numerous intervention projects initiated by Tompolo, which have had a transformative impact on NMU.

“We are deeply grateful for the various intervention projects you’ve undertaken to improve our university,” Ebike remarked. “Your efforts have eased many of the challenges faced by our university community. You are our single largest benefactor, and we hold you in the highest regard.”

He emphasized Tompolo’s foresight in establishing the institution. “While many others were focused on investing abroad, you chose to build and equip a world-class facility here, which is now the premier Maritime University in Nigeria. Your Mieka Dive project laid the foundation for NMU’s existence.”

Ebike also credited Tompolo for the peace and security enjoyed by the university since its inception. “For nearly six years, we’ve had a smooth academic operation with no recorded incidents of kidnapping or crime near any of our campuses. You’ve provided a safe environment for learning and working. We are truly grateful, GOC,” he added.

Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo’s Media Consultant, accepted the award on his behalf. “It’s a great joy to see the seed we planted continue to grow and flourish,” said Dr. Bebenimibo. A lecturer at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, he described Tompolo as a man of exceptional kindness and vision.

In his address to the university staff, Dr. Bebenimibo encouraged them to maintain their efforts in propelling the institution to new heights. “Many of you have already advanced in your careers, with some becoming Senior Lecturers and others receiving earned promotions. Let’s continue working together to push this institution forward. There is nothing like it,” he concluded.
