The Niger Delta Transparency Watch Group (NDTWG) has submitted a formal petition to the Office of the National Security Advisor (NSA), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Department of State Security (DSS), alleging sustained acts of cyberstalking and bullying by Mr. Jude Gbaboyor.
The group accuses Mr. Gbaboyor of targeting prominent figures, including Dr. Dennis Otuaro, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, and the Gbaramatu Kingdom, through malicious online propaganda.
In the petition, dated December 12, 2024, NDTWG expressed grave concern over the psychological and societal impact of these activities, which they described as an attack on the dignity and well-being of the victims. Citing Section 24(2) of the Nigerian Cybercrime Act, the group noted that the law explicitly criminalizes the transmission of communications intended to bully, threaten, or harass others. The law prescribes penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment and fines of no less than ₦25,000,000 for offenders.
The group also emphasized the broader consequences of cyberbullying and cyberstalking, including psychological distress such as anxiety, depression, and fear, as well as physical health problems and disruptions to daily life. It further highlighted the violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to safety, health, and freedom of expression, as recognized by international laws.
NDTWG has called for immediate action from the relevant authorities to arrest Mr. Gbaboyor and launch a thorough investigation into his alleged activities. They provided a series of online links they claim serve as evidence to substantiate their claims, urging the authorities to act swiftly to ensure justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.
