High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has expressed deep sorrow and disbelief over the passing of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, a former Minister of State for Education and former Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 general elections in Delta State.
Speaking through his aide, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo conveyed his condolences during a visit to the family of the deceased at Oginibu, Ughelli South LGA. He described Gbagi’s death as sudden and untimely, emphasizing the late businessman’s significant contributions to the development of Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.
Tompolo reminisced about Gbagi’s character, highlighting him as a compassionate individual who prioritized the welfare of others above his own interests. Despite being perceived as strict and disciplinary by some, Tompolo emphasized that Gbagi’s intentions were always noble.
“He was a strict disciplinarian but was misunderstood by a section of society. He came, saw, and left quietly. Indeed, God gave and it was God that allowed him to go and rest at this time. We will surely miss him,” Tompolo remarked.
Expressing words of comfort, Tompolo encouraged the grieving family members to find solace in the fact that Gbagi had fulfilled his purpose and made meaningful contributions to society before his demise.
In response, Egba Gbagi, one of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi’s sons, conveyed the family’s gratitude to Tompolo for taking the time to visit and offer condolences during their time of mourning. He assured Tompolo that the family would keep him informed about the arrangements for the burial ceremony.
