Leader of the Southern Youth Movement for Good Governance, Chief Promise Lawuru, today, February 1, 2025, played host to the Minority Caucus of the Delta State House of Assembly in a significant meeting focused on governance, accountability, and the future of Delta State. The gathering, led by Minority Leader Hon. Edafe Emakpo, included six other lawmakers elected under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a strategic move ahead of the 2027 elections to challenge the failing governance of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Present at the meeting were Hon. Ebitonmo Anthony Alapala of Burutu Constituency 1, who serves as the Minority Whip; Hon. Benson Obirhe of Warri South Constituency II; Hon. Collins Egbetamah Ovie of Udu State Constituency; Hon. Achoja Blessing of Ethiope West State Constituency; Hon. Matthew Omonade of Ughelli North 1 State Constituency; and Hon. Spencer Ohwofa of Ughelli North 2 State Constituency.
Chief Lawuru was firm in his criticism of the PDP-led government in Delta State, which he described as a failed administration that has mismanaged state resources and failed to meet the people’s needs. He warned that any politician who does not put the people first will face a political tsunami in 2027.
Lawuru urged the APC lawmakers to stand firm against the PDP’s ineffectiveness and ensure they focus on the urgent needs of their constituents.
As the APC begins its strategic moves ahead of the 2027 elections, discussions at the meeting centered on the urgent need to address the state’s infrastructural decay, improve governance, and ensure that the people’s voices are heard in the state’s political affairs. Chief Lawuru emphasized that the era of broken promises and failed leadership is over, and the people of Delta State demand real, accountable governance.
Chief Lawuru emphasized the importance of unity within the APC as they prepare to challenge the status quo and offer better governance to the people of Delta State. He noted that the APC’s vision for the state focuses on addressing the people’s needs and tackling the governance issues under the current PDP administration.
Lawuru further stated that in the coming days, states and local governments across the Southern region would be inaugurated, marking a significant milestone for the Southern Youth Movement for Good Governance. He proudly declared that the movement has grown to become the largest youth organization in the country, setting the stage for a transformative political era.
