•Says Itsekiris should allow the sleeping dog lie
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Itsekiri monarch today, signed by the Chairman of Okerenkoko community, Chief James Tangbowei and Comr. Ernest Bebenimibo secretary respectively.
The community have advised the Olu of Warri not to instigate what they described as another round of ethnic crisis between the Ijaws of Gbaramatu and Itsekiris, stressing that the revered monarch should allegedly appreciate the relative peace in Warri and its environs by desisting from inflammatory statements capable of truncating the fragile peace in the area.
The community leadership also beckoned on the Itsekiri nation to allow the sleeping dog lie.
The letter read in part: “We, acting for and on behalf of the good and peace loving people of Okerenkoko Federated Community wish to refer to the publication of Wednesday 18th January 2017 made by HRM Ogiame Ikenwoli the Olu of Warri regarding the ownership and acquisition of LAND of the Nigerian Maritime University Okerenkoko.
“The publication went further to castigate and rebrand the Okerenkoko Federated Community as Impostors and tenants to the ownership of the University site.
“It is disheartening and quite disappointing to read in the national dailies such claim of land acquired by the Federal Government that was published in the dailies on the 25th of September 2013 regarding Claim/counter claims duly signed and approved by the then Governor of Delta state,Dr.Emmanuel E. Uduanghan pass through the necessary lower and upper legislative processes and site duly surveyed with a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) Issued in favour of Okerenkoko Federated Community, adequate and commensurate compensation made without any form of rancour, acrimony and instigations from any quarter since 2014. This is a done deal why the agitation?” The letter wonders
Adding that “Base on the foregoing therefore,we make bold to say that:
“The Olu shouldn’t incite the Amadino people he so claimed as the original owners against the Okerenkoko people..
“The Olu is advise in his own interest and his kinsmen to appreciate the relative peace in Warri and its environs and stop making inflammatory statements capable of truncating the peace we are all enjoying in Warri and its environs particularly Niger Delta in general.
“Finally, that the Olu should render an unreserved apoology for calling the Okerenkoko and Gbaramatu people Impostors and interlopers with immediate effect. A SLEEPING DOG SHOULD BE ALLOW TO LIE”. It warns
