Promote peace and harmony in your domain -Pere of Gbaramatu tells Ijaw nation

The Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro Gbaraun II (Aketekpe, Agadagba) has called on sons and daughters of Ijaw nation irrespective of their profession or political divide to be promoters of peace and harmony in their domain.

His Royal Majesty stated this in Taribor, the ancestral headquarters of Tubutoru Kingdom in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Friday 13th October, 2017.

While speaking at the first coronation anniversary of the Pere of Tubutoru Kingdom, the Gbaramatu monarch encouraged the Ijaws to live together as one while stressing that those in politics should play it in favour of their people and not for their personal benefits or selfish aims.

Oboro-Gbaraun II further hyped on the need for the entire Ijaws to speak with one voice as that will promote a common understanding, bring peace and development to the Ijaw land, as well as take the Ijaw nation to a higher ground.


In his words, “Every Ijaw man or woman should contribute his or her quota to move the Ijaw nation forward. Let us gather our strengths for a productive venture. Ijaws should not betray themselves in the name of personal enrichment and politics”

Continuing, His Royal Majesty stressed that the Ijaw descendants should not for any reason kill because of politics but should rather use it as a vehicle to attract development to their domain.

On the need to sustain Izon dialect and culture, the Pere encouraged every Ijaw sons and daughters to speak the language and promote their cultural heritage as that will make the Ijaw nation to remain on the world map as well as being nationally relevant.

In his response, the elated traditional ruler of the kingdom, HRM Oguruyeke, Okirimini 1 stated that the dream of a better Tubutoru has come with this auspicious visit of the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom to Tubutoru Kingdom.

He stated that his thematic focus will primarily include but not limited to; establishing information centres in the communities of the kingdom, inviting research institutes to propose profitable projects on kola nuts.



Others according to him are palm oil and cocoa development, animal husbandry projects such as aquaculture, snail rearing, piggery and poultry farms.

Speaking with  GbaramatuVoice, the Chairman of KFT Group, Chief Ekomieyefa Uduboh, stated that the visit of the Pere of Gbaramatu to Tubutoru and Arogbo Kingdoms in Ondo State has reawaken hope for unity and peace among the Ijaw people. 

Chief Uduboh praised the exemplary leadership style of the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro Gbaraun II, (Aketekpe, Agadagba) adding that with this historic visit, he has succeeded in stamping his footprints in the sands of time.

In a related development, GbaramatuVoice observed that the event which was supposed to be a coronation anniversary turned out to be a celebration of Ijaw culture garnished with great fun. This development, our correspondent reliably gathered was occasioned by the presence of the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom.

Also, our reporter gathered that over eight traditional rulers accompanied Aketekpe in the royal visit which chroniclers of Ijaw history described as ‘opuye’.

The mood in Taribor community led credence to this fact as the people were arrested with disbelief, seeing the highly revered Pere of Gbaramatu and the Pere of Tubutoru seated together. The event was heralded by different cultural display and traditional rites.

Also, the traditional rulers of Yoruba extraction use the opportunity to pay homage to the Pere of Tubutoru Kingdom.

The event was graced by Royal Fathers and other dignitaries from all works of life amongst which are; His Royal Majesty, Beri Appoi III, (Okee, Ogudumu), Kala Suo of Okomu Kingdom, Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Others are His Royal Majesty, Kabiesi of Akotogbo (Ewalewa) in Ondo State; His Royal Majesty, Godwin Ogunyebo (Alagbabunafa) Pere of Olodiama Kingdom, Edo State; His Royal Majesty, Joel Ebani (Ogiobo), Pere of Iduwini Kingdom, Bayelsa State; High Chief Afuwajoke 1, the former regent of Iyansa Kingdom; Chief Dennis Otuaro; and others.
