Presidential Amnesty Programme Scholars Shine at MCIU Graduation Ceremony

Kemien Egbekun, a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) scholarship, has graduated with a first-class degree in Law from Michael and Cecilia Ibru University (MCIU), Agbara-Otor, Delta State. Egbekun achieved a CGPA of 4.77 and was one of several PAP scholars honored at the university’s 6th convocation ceremony on September 6, 2024.

Two other PAP-sponsored students, Oladapo Damilola and Toikumo Prosper, also made their mark, graduating with second-class upper degrees in Law from the same institution.

The PAP scholarship scheme, which has seen over 60 students earn first-class degrees between 2016 and 2023, continues to produce exceptional results. According to Dr. Charles Ariye, PAP’s Head of Education, students have excelled in a range of disciplines including engineering, law, political science, and medical sciences at various partnering universities.

PAP Administrator Dr. Dennis Otuaro praised the achievements of Egbekun and her peers, stating that their academic success highlights the program’s dedication to fostering human capital in the Niger Delta. In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Igoniko Oduma, Otuaro applauded the students for their hard work and commitment.

He stated, “We are elated by the fantastic academic performances of the Presidential Amnesty Programme scholarship scheme students. Achieving such impressive grades as first-class and second-class upper division is no mean academic feat.

“These achievements reinforce the fact that the PAP is on the right track implementing its mandate. We are delighted and encouraged by this fact, and are taking appropriate steps to deepen efforts at achieving more in educational and vocational initiatives.

“We must thank President Bola Tinubu for his strong support for the programme and the undying love he has for the people of the Niger Delta through his Renewed Hope Agenda. He is committed to sustainable peace, stability and development in the region. He needs to be appreciated and encouraged also.”

Otuaro thanked President Bola Tinubu for his continued support of the program, noting that these academic milestones align with the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the Niger Delta. He further encouraged current PAP students to aim high, using these recent successes as motivation to excel in their own studies.

The PAP boss reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating more scholarship opportunities and continuing to support students in their pursuit of excellence across various fields of study.
