GbaramatuVoce has again observed that the Delta state Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), which was established by enabling Act to among other provisions secure 50% of the 13% Oil Derivation Fund accruing to Delta State Government and use the received sum, for rehabilitation and development of oil-producing areas of the state, may afterwards not be living up to that responsibility.

Supporting the above position is the newspaper’s recent visits to Naifor Island, a suburb in Warri South West Local Government of the state

The visit which was guided by Comrade Diamond Israel, Chairman, Naifor Community Development Association (NCDA) and forms part of GbaramtuVoice’s Social Investment Monitoring and Good Governance Project, exposed a community littered with DESOPADEC abandoned projects. And more than anything else casts a doubt on the Commission’s capacity to satisfactorily perform the assigned responsibility.

Some of these abandoned projects include but not limited to; classroom blocks, water projects, Primary Healthcare building, among others.

Below is DESOPADEC scorecard in the community as pictures tell the best story!
