PDP lied on Bayelsa defection – APC

The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday described as lies and deceit, claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that thousands of APC members in Kolokuma-Opokuma local government area of the state defected to the party.

The Acting Chairman of APC in Bayelsa, Mr. Joseph Fafi, said it was regrettable that the PDP chose to start the New Year with falsehood.

He insisted that the claim that a former APC stalwart, Mr. Jackson Suokiri, led thousands of party members to PDP was the mother of all lies and a clear indication of the growing frustration of the PDP in the state.

Fafi said having failed to promote crisis in the state chapter of the APC, PDP had resorted to lies to hoodwink uninformed members of the public.

He said: “The APC in the state has become more formidable and a big threat to the PDP.  On the issue of the 7,000 defectors, the total votes received by PDP during the 2015 governorship election were a little over 7,000 while the APC scored over 6,000 votes.

“It is, therefore, surprising how and where Jackson got 7,000 APC members from KOLGA alone to decamp with him. We call on the PDP to play politics with character and truthfulness.

“It is outrageous lies like this that keep decent people away from politics. For the avoidance of doubt Jackson only decamped with members of his immediate family in the presence of other PDP supporters.

“APC in Bayelsa State is not losing sleep over Jackson’s defection as they are sure he will be back to APC before the next elections in the state.

‘We congratulate all Bayelsans for successfully crossing over to 2018 and we assure them that better days are ahead with the APC.”
