Chief Dennis Otuaro, PhD, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), announced a significant step forward in youth empowerment through education during a stakeholders’ meeting in Effurun, Delta State over the weekend.
At the gathering themed “Fostering, Consolidating, and Collaborating for the Peace, Security, Stability, and Development of the Niger Delta,” Dr. Charles Ariye, Head of the Education Unit within the PAP, highlighted the achievements of the Formal Education Department.
Since its establishment in 2010, the department has facilitated the graduation of 4,101 delegates from various Nigerian tertiary institutions under the Onshore Training program. These graduates specialize in diverse fields such as Medical Sciences, Engineering, Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and the Arts.
Currently, the programme supports a total of 1,999 students across both Onshore and Offshore training programs, showcasing ongoing commitment to educational excellence and career development in the Niger Delta.
Dr. Ariye affirmed, “Chief Dr. Dennis Otuaro has approved the deployment of delegates for the 2024/25 academic session, reaffirming our dedication to empowering youth through education.”
Stakeholders lauded the programme’s impact on the socio-economic fabric of the region and commended the administration’s proactive stance in fostering sustainable development and peace in the Niger Delta.
The meeting concluded with renewed commitments from all parties to collaborate towards achieving lasting peace, security, and holistic development in the Niger Delta, underscoring education’s pivotal role in these endeavors.
