Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, the newly sworn-in Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has pledged to ensure that every child in Edo State has access to quality education and feels included in the system.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with GbaramatuVoice shortly after his swearing-in by Governor Monday Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin on Monday, Iyamu emphasized his commitment to transforming education in the state.
He stated: “Every Edo child is going to have a sense of belonging. We’re going to reduce the out-of-school children.”
Dr. Iyamu further highlighted his focus on leveraging modern teaching tools and technology to enhance learning experiences for students in Edo State:
“We are going to ensure that we have the right technical equipment to enable them to learn better. We are here to make sure that all Edo children are in school, learn, and compete anywhere.”
Cleared by the Edo State House of Assembly alongside three other board members, Iyamu declared his readiness to collaborate with Governor Okpebholo to achieve this vision, saying: “It is time to do the work.”
Dr. Iyamu, who is also the Director of Unique International School in Delta State, reiterated his determination to rebuild the educational framework for the benefit of children across the state.
Governor Okpebholo, while swearing in Iyamu, commended his philanthropic contributions to education, particularly in supporting underprivileged students. The governor expressed confidence in Iyamu’s ability to bring about meaningful changes:
“Paddy is a well-experienced educationist, and I am sure he will bring his wealth of experience to change many things for the better in our education. A new Edo is rising.”
Alongside Iyamu, the state government also swore in board members Christopher Abuya, Idris Abu Aminu, and Pastor Angela Okpame to support the transformation agenda.
Dr. Iyamu’s appointment represents a significant step toward addressing key challenges in the state’s education system and ensuring no child is left behind.
