President Bola Tinubu is prioritizing peace, security, and development in the Niger Delta, according to Chief (Dr.) Dennis Otuaro, Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). Otuaro made these remarks during a consultative meeting with ex-agitators in Effurun, Delta State over the weekend.
The event, themed “Fostering, Consolidating, and Collaborating for the Peace, Security, Stability & Development of the Niger Delta Region,” brought together delegates from the 2nd Phase of the Amnesty Programme.
Otuaro emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the region’s needs and expanding the programme to include more critical stakeholders.
“President Tinubu is not only focused on peace and security but also on the infrastructural development of the region,” Otuaro stated. “We must deepen the programme this time around to accommodate more people, especially critical stakeholders who have not benefited from the programme.”
He appealed to ex-agitators to support the government’s efforts by maintaining peace and security in the area. “Mr. President is very serious about sustaining the existing peace in the Niger Delta; hence he is doing everything possible to attend to our desires. Let us discuss and proffer solutions to our immediate challenges. I’m here to serve and protect your interest and not myself.”
Otuaro assured the delegates that his administration would address complaints from beneficiaries, urging all groups to exercise patience. The PAP boss received widespread commendation from several delegates for his foresight and commitment to maintaining peace.
The delegates pledged their total support to the PAP’s initiatives, emphasizing their dedication to sustaining the existing peace in the Niger Delta region.
