OKUAMA/OKOLOBA: Presidential Amnesty Programme Boss, Otuaro, Meets Defence Minister for Strategic Talks

Chief Dennis Otuaro, PhD, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), met with the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, His Excellency, Dr. Muhammed Bello Matawalle, MON, in Abuja on Friday, March 22, to extend condolences and discuss strategic collaboration.

The visit aimed to express condolences to the Nigerian military following the March 14, 2024, ambush in the Okuama community in Ughelli South, where troops were responding to a crisis between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State.

Otuaro seized the opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the Presidential Amnesty Programme and the Ministry of Defence, focusing on critical aspects of the programme’s mission.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the programme’s role in promoting peace, security, and development in the Niger Delta region, while also exploring joint efforts to address emerging security challenges and socio-economic issues.

It is worth noting that on March 15, President Bola Tinubu appointed the former executive of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to lead the programme, aimed at tackling youth restiveness. Central to its mandate is they disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) of former agitators, providing them with opportunities for rehabilitation and integration back into society.
