Okerenkoko community empowers women with millions of Naira

By Shina Badmus

The Okerenkoko community executive in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, has empowered 24 women with the sum of N100,000, each.

The empowerment programme which took place on Saturday, April 13, at the community hall, was designed to provide entrepreneurial capacity development training, skill acquisition and seed funds for women to start and grow their own business.

The Chairman of the community, Hon. Kingsley Oturubo said the programme was instituted by his his office, having observed that women in the community lacked the immediate finance to go into small business, in order to alleviate their suffering.

According to Oturubo, “Today, we have empowered about 24 women to the tone of N2.4m. Other corresponding expenses put together amounted to about N3m.

“We will replicate this programme in no distant time, probably in another 6months, and we will do that twice a year, for the next two to three years, in order to cut across good number of women.”

The PRO of the community, Mr. Layefa Super enthused that the empowerment programme ought to have come before now, as it was part of the executive’s 2018 vision.

Super however frowned that women were not carried along in the previous executive, hence the gesture by the Okerenkoko community executive led by Hon. Kingsley Oturubo to empower the community women.
