The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide has hailed the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for setting up a committee to inquire into the unending Ogbe-Ijoh/Aladja communal crisis.
A statement signed by the President of the IYC, Barrister Roland Oweilaemi Pereotubo implored the committee headed by Chief Tunde Smoothto be unbiased and abide strictly by the terms of reference for which it was set up and to come up with a report that would mark end of the crisis.
The IYC President therefore called on warring factions of Ogbe-Ijoh, Aladja and Agbassa communities to bury their hatchet and employ alternate dispute resolution techniques rather than resorting to the use of swords and guns in settlementing their differences.
According to the IYC boss, it is time Deltans and by extension Niger Deltans put forth a collective and cumulative synergy and unity to find lasting solutions to the Niger Delta problem of underdevelopment.
“The time is now for all Deltans and by extension all Niger Deltans to put forth a collective and cumulative synergy and unity to find lasting solutions to the Niger Delta problem of underdevelopment.
“We cannot be calling upon the Nigerian Federal Government to develop our neglected region while we cause insecurity and destruction of lives in the region”, the President added
He said it was high time people of the Niger Delta put away ethnic differences, sentiments and harness the region’s God-given human, material and natural resources to improve the social, political and economic environment of the region.
