National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Delta State, has banned the posting of 2019 “Batch A” corp members in the state to Warri South West and Udu Local Government Areas of the State.
The decision may not be unconnected with the ongoing internal crisis in the LGAs and the safety of Corp members.
Coordinator, NYSC, Delta State, Mr. Omotade Benjamin, speaking on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2019 Batch “A” Orientation Course disclosed that Delta State Board of NYSC agreed on the decision.
He assured that the non-deployment of corps members to the area would not affect the entire LGA.
“The administration of corps members to the local government has to be necessarily done at the Local Government Office.
“We do not want any issue to compromise their personal security. For now, we are suspending on a temporary basis posting of Corp members to the two LGA,” he stated.
Representing Kingsley Otuaro, Acting Governor of Delta State, Commissioner of Higher Education, Jude Sinebe, appealed to corps members to avoid frivolous journey during the one year programme.
He also charged security agencies to take the security of Corp members as the utmost priority, urging Corp members to resist the temptation of relocation rather he advised them to transfer ideals and skills which they have gained from their time in the orientation camp.
“Make use of your expertise and talents to impact on students in your host communities as 85 per cent of you would be posted to schools. Therefore, endeavour to make them better than you met them,” he pleaded.
