The Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusaders, (FHRACC) has called on the Federal Government to address the fundamental issues bedevilling the nation as no amount of force can quell the agitation for secession by the Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB).
The group made this call recently in a release signed by their National President, Barr Alaowei Cleric and made available to Gbaramatu Voice.
Speaking through the release, Barrister Cleric stated that the group wants the federal government to understand that the movement did not just come on its own but as a reaction to the long years of oppression, subjugation and usurpation of the people’s rights to live as free citizens in their fatherland.
The Group’s President then added that Biafran struggle, the agitations for oil freedom in the Niger Delta and the clamour for regional autonomy in the South West can be likened to the apartheid struggle in South Africa stressing that it is unwise and conventionally misconceived for the government to use force to suppress them.
Buttressing their displeasure, the group condemned in strong terms the purported attempt to arrest the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu which has led to the loss of lives in Umuahia by the Nigerian Armed Forces.
Expressing their displeasure over this unfortunate incident as demonstrated by the Nigerian armed forces, FHRACC told the Federal Government that IPOB and other indigenous people have the right to struggle for political and economic freedom under enabling international treaties.
They then advised that the military should learn to stay on its primary assignment and stop dabbling into issues like this as a political solution will always serve the best interest of all the parties involved.
The Group finally warned the federal government to be law abiding and learn how not to depend on self-help as the issue that they attempted to arrest the IPOB leader is still before a court of competent jurisdiction.
