Uguru Usani, minister of Niger Delta, has raised alarm on the alleged attempt by a political group in Cross River state to stage a protest linking him to militants.
Describing the plot as an attempt by his political opponents to discredit him, Usani said information reaching him indicates that already, there are people coming into the federal capital territory to allegedly recruit miscreants and “other undesirable elements” ahead of the exercise scheduled for Abuja.
Usani, who is also the leader of APC in Cross River, told NAN that he has been under furious attacks since his appointment as minister, vowing that he would not be distracted.
“My immediate concern now is to turn around the fortunes of the Niger Delta region and create an environment conducive for development,” he said.
“My ministry has, therefore, rolled out a master plan to salvage the environment and to restore Niger Delta as the glory of all lands.”
He also said his unalloyed loyalty is to President Muhammadu Buhari, “who has graciously appointed him at this critical period of our national history to pilot the affairs of the Niger Delta”.
The minister appealed to the youths of the region to sheath their sword and embrace peace.
