WARRI- The commissioner representing Ijaw Ethnic Nationality in the board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Favour Izoukumo have hailed the establishment of Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper as a step in the right direction.
The commissioner made the call during a visit to his office at Deco, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State by the Publisher of the Newspaper, Jacob Abai accompanied by his press crew as part of activities marking its one year anniversary while promising to partner with the Newspaper.
It would be recalled that the newspaper began its first printing journey as a monthly tabloid in the Nigerian State on August 1st 2015 as August 1st 2016 marked its one year anniversary.
Speaking on the role of Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper in the Nigerian State and the Niger Delta region in particular, Chief Favour extols the media coverage of prevailing and burning issues of the region by the young paper.
According to him, Gbaramatu Voice is gradually becoming a voice of the Niger Delta people while charging the Ijaw ethnic nationality to be more United as the battle bedevilling the region cannot be won with only the Ijaws without the cooperation of other tribes in the region.
He however, frowns at the age long injustice meted out on the Niger Delta region by the powers that be, while wondering on the steadily depreciating scheme of things in the country.
“Our cause to see how we can develop the region cannot be done by us alone; we need friends that can be sympathetic with what we are facing. In the Niger Delta struggle, if our people are wrong, I tell them; I won’t hide it. Only the few of us cannot just be the solutions to our problems. We need other elites.” Chief Favour stated.
He further argued that, the Niger Delta story and particularly that of the Ijaws have been written in a disdainful way that do not really represent the true situation of things while expressing confidence that Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper will no doubt fill the gap in rewriting such hitherto gloomy picture and disparity across board.
The Niger Delta activist, tasked Gbaramatu Voice to always preach the gospel of unity while encouraging the medium to continue with the good works they are doing for the country and the region with the elaborate coverage of hidden issues.
