Itsekiri Youths Protest Inclusion Of two More Wards In Warri South

The Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC, on Friday, besieged the Warri office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), protesting the inclusion of additional two wards in Warri South Local Government Area.

The protesters said, INEC had decided unilaterally to add two Wards to the existing 10 Wards in the area.

Legal Adviser to INYC, Mr. Shewor Edema,  said that INEC could not decide which court order to obey.

“The wards in Warri is 10 and not 12, INEC has no right to select which court decision to obey.

“I am also aware that is collecting money from the voters to collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

“PVC is the power of the people to exercise their right, by doing so they are being disenfranchised,” he said.

Mrs Alere Temisan, another protester said that a court had ruled that it should be reversed to 10 ward.

“We want 10 wards, no 10 wards, no election in Warri tomorrow,” she said.

Mr Joseph Otaru said “we are protesting the illegal wards that INEC has imposed on us.

“We are not going to fold our hands, we are ready to fight with our last blood,” Otaru said.

Meanwhile, the INEC Electoral Officer (EO) in Warri South, Mrs Okah Grace, who was approached for reaction, declined comment.
