IPDI TO OKOWA: Save Ayakoromo Community From Being Submerged

…Calls on NDDC to Complete the Sand filling project

…Seeks Provision of Relief Materials For Flood Victims

A call has gone to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa and other interventionist agencies to come to the rescue of Ayakoromo and other riverine communities that are being threatened by flood.

This call was made recently by the Ijaw People Development Initiative (IPDI) through a release signed by the group’s president, Comrade Ozobo Austin and made available to GbaramatuVoice.

According to the release, the flooding situation in Ayakoromo and other riverine communities which includes but not limited to; Ogbeingbene, Okirika, Gbekebor, Obotebe, Yayorogbene, Ekoro, Egologbene, Oyangbene, Akparemogbene, Eseimogbene in Burutu North has devastated the economic, commercial and academic activities in the communities.

Comr. Ozobo pointed out that schools in Ayakoromo and Okrika communities, ranging from primary to secondary have been closed down on sabbatic due to the overwhelming flood, submerging both classrooms and access roads.

In his words, “it is our fervent appeal that Delta State Government and other relevant government interventionist agencies to as a matter of urgency intervene in this precarious flooding situation in Ayakoromo and other riverine communities in Burutu Local Government Area (LGA).

Such agencies the IPDI listed as DESOPADEC, Delta State Flood Management Committee, NEMA, NDDC and Niger Delta Ministry.

The release further stressed that Ayakoromo community has been suffering from annual flooding and no government or its agency has made any remedial efforts to address the ugly trend.

In the same manner, IPDI explained that the current level of flooding in Ayakoromo community when visited by their team is alarming adding that houses and farmlands have been submerged,.

Comr. Ozobo said that in order not allow the community goes through the experience of 2012; we implore our people that are highly placed to come to their rescue.

He also called on Hon. Daniel Yingi, Member Representing Burutu North in Delta State House of Assembly to prevail without delay in a view to providing aids and preventive measures that abate this annual flooding of Ayakoromo and other affected communities in Burutu North.

The Group finally called on the Delta State Government to provide the community with relief materials and NDDC   to complete the abandoned land reclamation job in Ayakoromo community as that will finally address the annual flooding menace affecting riverine communities in the state.
