Implement 16 Point Agenda On Niger Delta Development -Bomadi Chiefs Tell FG

The Akugbene-Mein Traditional Chiefs Council in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, has called on the Federal Government to urgently implement the 16-point agenda on the development of the Niger Delta in appreciation of the commitment of the leaders of the region to peace.

It also urged the state government to site more projects in riverine areas as a way of reciprocating the block votes given to the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, in the 2015 governorship election.

A communiqué  at the end of its quarterly general meeting held at the palace of His Royal Majesty, Pere S.P. Luke, Kalanama VIII, in Akugbene-Mein, the monarchs hailed the renovation of Ogriagbene General Hospital, and the award of a contract for the connection of the council to the national grid.

 “The council calls on all sons and daughters of the kingdom to support without equivocation, the government of Delta State in the area of peace-building, in order to attract development to the kingdom. The meeting also called on the sons and daughters of the kingdom, who aspire to vie for political offices in the forthcoming general election, to play by the rules in order not to heat up the polity.

“The council appeals to sons and daughters of the kingdom to participate in the extended voters’ registration exercise in order to make the desired change meaningful.

“The council further calls for unity amongst sons and daughters of the kingdom as unity breeds peaceful co-existence which will further attract developmental projects from the government,’’ the communique stated.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF AKUGBENE-MEIN TRADITIONAL CHIEFS COUNCIL MEETING HELD AT THE PALACE ON 18TH AUGUST 2018.

The Akugbene-Mein Traditional Chiefs Council at its quarterly general Council meeting held at the palace on the 18th of August, 2018 considered several issues of urgent importance pertaining to the well-being of the Kingdom in particular, the State and the Country at large. The meeting which was duly attended by the Chiefs of the Kingdom, was presided over by the PERE-IN-COUNCIL, HRM PERE S.P. LUKE, KALANAMA VIII (JP), 2nd VICE CHAIRMAN, DELTA STATE COUNCIL OF TRADITIONAL RULERS.

The meeting carefully considered the said issues and resolved as follows;

The call for all Sons and Daughters of the Kingdom to support without equivocation, the Government of Delta State ably led by His Excellency Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, in the area of peace building, in other to attract development to the Kingdom.

The meeting also called on the Sons and Daughters of the Kingdom who aspire to vie for political offices in the forth coming general elections to play by the rules in order not to heat up the polity.

The Council noted with great concern the worrisome issue of the on going political brouhaha at the National Assembly and called for calm and order as not to truncate our fledgling democracy. The kingdom hereby plead with those fanning the embers of discord to desist from such acts as they are antithetical to the growth and progress of our democracy.

The Council further calls for unity amongst Sons and Daughters of the Kingdom as unity breeds peaceful co-existence which will further attract developmental projects from the government at all strata.

The Council put on record of His Excellency, Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa of given a face lift to the General Hospital at Ogriagbene, Bomadi the LGA head quarter, and awarding a contract to getting the National grid to the LGA but also want to call on Him to site more developmental projects in the Riverine areas to reciprocate the 90% measure of block votes given to Him during the 2015 general election because the Ijaws have given Him and State so much and deserves more developmental projects in our areas to match up with the projects sited at the uplands of the State by a way of comparism.

The Council appealed to Sons and Daughters of the Kingdom to take full advantage of the extended Voters Registration excise, by availing themselves of this opportunity to update and collect their Permanent Voters Cards in order to make desired change meaningful.

The Council also calls on the federal government as a matter of urgency implement the 16% agenda to meet their own part of the bargain in way of reciprocating the efforts of Niger Delta Leaders of Thought (PANDEF and OTHER STAKEHOLDERS) in their wise wisdom of pleading with Sons and Daughters of the Region that yielded this positive results we are enjoying today as a Nation.

The Council, while appreciating the ongoing efforts of security agencies of the Country in curbing crimes, and also appealed to the security agencies to not relent but redouble their efforts in order to put a stop to the barbaric killings of innocent citizens, particularly in the Northern region and other parts of the country by the marauding herdsmen and other criminal elements.
