Ijaws should work together as one family – Otuaro

The people of Ijaw ethnic extraction in Delta State and beyond have been called upon to work as one big family in the pursuit of their vision.

Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, made the call yesterday in Asaba during the official launch of Delta Ijaw Political Assembly (DIPA), a political association geared toward projecting and protecting the interests of the Ijaw nation.

Barr. Otuaro while expressing greetings from the state governor noted that the Ijaws have contributed their quota immensely to the development of Delta State.

He urged the Ijaw people to always remain united, adding that with one voice they will always attract more democratic dividends to enhance the development of the Ijaw area.

The state deputy governor noted that, even in the midst of recession, the government of Delta state still identify with the Ijaw region. He asserted that, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has implicits confidence in the Ijaws.

He stressed that the Ijaw people always have strong confidence in themselves and they always do what they say. He called for the continuous support of all Ijaw people for the Senator Okowa-led government.

While urging the national executives of DIPA to use the assembly to positively protect and project the vision and interests of the Ijaw nation, he assured that the governor will in no distant time hold a meeting with DIPA where more issues of concern will be discussed.

Earlier, in an address, the Chief of Staff Government House, Rt. Hon. Tam Brisibe, who chairmaned the occasion called for unity among all Ijaw people.

Rt. Hon. Brisibe noted that with unity and harmony among the Ijaw people  all purpose and objectives will be achieved.

Responding, the National Chairman of DIPA, Chief J. T Government on behalf of the newly inaugurated executive noted that DIPA as an assembly of Ijaw ethnic nationality is geared towards projecting and protecting the interest of the Ijaw nation.

He assured that the assembly will focus on ensuring that Ijaws are well recognised in the political hemisphere of the nation.

High point of the occasion was an endorsement of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and His Deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro for second term in office moved by Hon. Julius Pondi and seconded by Hon. Preyor Oboro while the motion was moved for adoption by Senator James Manager.
