Ijaw Female Students Empower 30 Girls in Gelegele Community

•Calls On Government, Oil Companies For Support

As a way of supporting the socioeconomic well-being of the girl-child in Gelegele community, the National Association of Ijaw Female Students (NAIFS), University of Benin Chapter have recently empowered thirty girls of Gelegele Community in Olodiama Kingdom, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.

At the closing ceremony of the two weeks skill acquisition training programme held on 2nd December, 2017 at the community town hall in Gelegele, Comr. Tarekebina Ekereke Oyakonghan urged the beneficiaries to put their acquired skills into use.

The group which is also known as NAIFS in the release explained that the initiative was aimed at getting the girl child engaged through skills in order to be self-dependent as well as become an employer of labour in the society.

Continuing, the group pointed out that they cannot depend on the government to put food on their table while adding that the era of women being restricted to the kitchen and the other room was over.


Comr. Tarekebina used the medium to call on Nigeria government and the multinational oil companies operating in the Niger-Delta to create the enabling environment by keying into such programmes in order to curb youth restiveness.

The primary focuses of this training programme include, Catering, Cake design/Baking, Bead Making, Liquid soap production and Make-Up.

The skill training came to a close with the presentation of certificates to the graduating students as well as gifts items presented to the best graduating students.
