How Tompolo’s Tantita is Transforming Barracks Life for Nigerian Soldiers in Niger Delta

Effurun, Delta State, September, 2024 — Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), owned by High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), has officially unveiled the newly remodeled Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation for the 3 Battalion, located in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The landmark event, which took place on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, was presided over by Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division of the Nigerian Army. The project is part of Tantita Security’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts and marks a significant contribution to improving the welfare of military personnel stationed in the Niger Delta region.

Modernized Facility with Enhanced Capacity

The Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation, formerly known as the Old Army Day Secondary School, has been completely redesigned, reconstructed, and fully furnished by TSSNL. The modern complex now boasts 68 rooms and 18 bathrooms, with the capacity to accommodate up to 140 soldiers. This vital infrastructure is expected to lift the morale of military personnel and enhance their operational performance.

Speaking at the event, Major General Abdussalam highlighted the significance of the project, noting that it reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to troop welfare under the strategic leadership of the Chief of Army Staff. He praised Tantita Security for their dedication and underscored the project’s alignment with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of transforming the Nigerian Army into a highly trained, well-equipped, and motivated force.

“A Milestone for Troop Welfare” – GOC Abdussalam

In his address, Major General Abdussalam said, “This project represents a remarkable milestone as it addresses a critical need for troop accommodation. The completion of the transit facility demonstrates the power of sound administration and troop welfare, which are vital to maintaining peace and order in our area of responsibility.”

He continued, “Let me thank the Chief of Army Staff for his strategic guidance and leadership. The 6 Division of Nigerian Army will continue to safeguard our critical national infrastructure in order to create a conducive atmosphere for the increase in our oil output. We’ll continue to conduct operations to ensure the maintenance of law and order in our area of responsibility.”

“The soldier transit accommodation represents a remarkable milestone as it addresses the critical needs of troops for accommodation. The project aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and motivated force to achieve our constitutional responsibilities.”

He added, “In this vein, the transit accommodation to be commissioned today highlights the impactful discourse of corporate social responsibility. I therefore commend the effort and contribution of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited in achieving this laudable project, which will immensely impact the Unit, the Brigade, and the Nigerian Army.

“I am aware of the enormous resources Tantita committed in achieving this. The project indeed shows that our bond with you (Tantita) transcends operational energy on the field and has fostered a spirit of camaraderie and goodwill which will be sustained. Again, I thank you most sincerely for complementing the Nigerian Army’s efforts in improving the welfare of personnel.

“I also want to urge Tantita that, having completed this project in 3 Battalion Effurun, they should look for other barracks within our area of responsibility so that they can extend their goodwill to them.

“Finally, I commend the efforts leading to the completion of 3 Battalion Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation. The project will no doubt go a long way in lifting the spirit of personnel and enhancing their outputs.

He further emphasized the role of the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in safeguarding national infrastructure, particularly in the Niger Delta, to support increased oil output and national development. “We will continue to conduct operations to ensure the maintenance of law and order, and this project will help lift the spirits of our personnel,” he added.

Tantita Security’s Commitment to Public-Private Collaboration

Chief Kestin Pondi, Managing Director of Tantita Security Services, was represented at the event by Capt. Warredi Enisuoh, Executive Director of Operations and Technical at TSSNL. Capt. Enisuoh reiterated the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving significant milestones like this, stating that the collaboration between Tantita and government security agencies has been instrumental in their success.

“Our performance, especially in combating oil theft in the Niger Delta, relies heavily on the support of government security agencies. This accommodation facility is a token of our appreciation for their efforts, and we hope it encourages others to support similar initiatives,” Capt. Enisuoh stated.

He also highlighted the sacrifices made by military personnel in ensuring the safety and security of the region, particularly in the fight against oil theft. “Many have given their lives or sustained injuries in this mission. This facility serves as a small gesture of our gratitude for their service,” he added.

Enhancing Operational Efficiency

Brig Gen UV Unachukwu, Commander, 63 Battalion, expressed deep gratitude to Tantita Security Services for their substantial contribution. He noted that the remodeled facility addresses the critical housing shortages exacerbated by increased troop deployments and will significantly ease accommodation pressures within the battalion.

“This facility will go a long way in improving the welfare of our soldiers and supporting the operational needs of the Brigade. It represents a strong collaboration between the Nigerian Army and private security companies like Tantita,” Brig Gen UV Unachukwu remarked.

The ceremony drew high-profile attendees, including Major E. Onoja, Commanding Officer of the 3 Battalion; Mr. Godfrey Tare Pondi, General Manager of Operations at TSSNL, and Chief Anthony Ofoni, Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council. Also present were officials from the Nigerian Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and other senior military officers.

The commissioning of the Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation is seen as a milestone in the ongoing efforts to improve the living conditions of military personnel in the Niger Delta.
