Since its inception in 2017, the Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Foundation youth empowerment program has transformed the lives of over 1,000 young people, the founder, Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, announced at the 2024 edition of the program. The event took place in Benin on Saturday, July 6, with the theme: “Advance.”
Dr. Iyamu revealed that the program, which has been held annually without interruption, provides significant financial support to youths.
Over 150 participants received grants of N150,000 each at the Edo Youth Empowerment Program to start new businesses or advance existing ones. Dr. Iyamu emphasized the importance of giving back to society when blessed with the means to do so, stating, “When God gives you the enablement, you have to give back to society, and this is exactly what we are doing.”
Explaining the selection process, Dr. Iyamu said, “We ask applicants to apply, visit their shops to understand their work, and ensure the funds are used appropriately. Additionally, we assign mentors to guide them on spending the money wisely and succeeding in their businesses.”
During the event, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, urged the beneficiaries to invest their grants in profitable ventures. Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, encouraged Nigerian youths to believe in themselves and strive for success, regardless of their backgrounds.
One of the beneficiaries, Precious Eriyo, expressed her gratitude, saying, “This grant makes me feel fulfilled. I needed money to invest in my cybercafe to buy a printer. I applied and was selected, which I didn’t expect.”
Victoria Mometa, a lady cobbler and another beneficiary, shared her joy, noting that the grant would significantly help her advance her business.
Guest speaker and coach Linus Okorie urged the youths to invest the grant wisely and avoid procrastination. The event also featured Nollywood actress Osas Ighodalo, Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo, and other entertainers who inspired the youths with uplifting performances.
Several politicians attended the event, including former Deputy Governor of Edo State Luck Imasuen, APC state chairman Emperor Jarett Tenebe, APC state secretary Lawrence Okah, APC deputy governorship candidate Hon. Dennis Idahosa, former SSG to Edo State government Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Hon. Rasaq Bello, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, and Prince Kassim Afegbua, among others.
