House of Reps committee meets Pere of Gbaramatu during Nigeria Maritime University tour [PHOTOS]

The House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety, Thursday, March 14, conducted an oversight visit to the Nigeria Maritime University in Okerenkoko, located in the Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, as part of its legislative duties. Led by the Deputy Chairman, Hon. Uduak Alphonsus Odudoh, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba.

During the visit, Hon. Uduak Alphonsus Odudoh emphasized the committee’s responsibility to oversee maritime institutions and ensure effective utilization of allocated funds. He expressed appreciation for the warm reception at the palace and reiterated the committee’s commitment to supporting the development of the Nigerian Maritime University.

He assured the Pere of the committee’s dedication to addressing their concerns, including issues related to host community rights and equitable distribution of appointments. He pledged to expedite legislative processes to ensure the passage of relevant bills crucial for the university’s development.

High Chief Godspower Gbenekama, Fiyewei (Spokesman) of Gbaramatu Kingdom, speaking on behalf of the monarch, emphasized the importance of recognizing the university’s full name and underscored the kingdom’s dedication to its growth. He commended the National Assembly for advancing the university’s interests and appealed for continued support to address challenges facing the institution.

Other members of the Committee on Maritime Safety for the oversight visit to NMU include Hon. Omoleye Abiodun Francis, Hon. Mathew Donatus Kuzalio, Hon. Abubakar Ahmad Mohammed, and Mrs. Ilami Sam Ngbor, Clerk of the Committee.

Also part of the delegation were the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Emmanuel Munakurogha Adigio; Dr. Alfred Mulade, Registrar; Dr. Charlie John Igwe, Acting Bursar; Dr. Basil Ossai, Associate Professor & Acting Librarian; Prof. Christopher Orugun; Mrs. Preye Boyitie, alongside other members of the university management.

Accompanying the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom were High Chief Nelson Ogelegbanwei, the Tonwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom; Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Media Consultant to High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo; Chief Lucky Miyendeya; and Apostle Labort Tonfawei, immediate past chairman of Oporoza community.
