Hon. Reyenieju assures take-off of Maritime University, says govt has no excuse funding the varsity

Member representing Warri Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Honourable Daniel Reyenieju today assured the people of Gbaramatu kingdom, and Niger Deltans of a smooth take-off of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko this year as planned by the government.

Honourable Reyenieju who gave this assurance at the palace of Pere of Gbaramatu kingdom, stated that he was upset when he heard the university was going to be put to halt as ordered by some politicians.

According to him, he was one of those who sharply reacted against the Minister of Transportation, Honourable Rotimi Amaechi’s call for the cancellation of the the school on the basis of insecurity.

His words, “I was one of those who reacted against the call by Minister of Transportation, Honourable Rotimi Amaechi. When I read that he said the Federal Government was not going to continue with the University, I publicly said he was reckless in speech, and I received several condemnation from people but I careless.

“I grew up here; my primary, secondary education were all here but when it was time for me to proceed to University I have to go far away Akwa Ibom State. I graduated from the university of Uyo. If we had a university here, I would have schooled here. Now a university wants to be established and someone said no. It is unacceptable”!

Honourable Reyenieju who expressed displeasure over government’s neglect of his Constituency lamented that his Constituency generates funds for the government yet its find it difficult to fund a project in the area.

“Some weeks ago I called people concerned on the take of this school and the excuse was there is no fund for its take-off. I said you cannot tell me you are looking for fund for the university to take-off when the government extract crude oil and gas from the area and yet you want to tell me no money to fund a project from where you get money, it is bad’, he said

Honourable Reyenieju who was part of House of Representatives Committee members on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration on oversight visit to the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko said other universities established the same time with the university had commenced academic activities hence the university must commenced academic activities this year.
