Hon. Pondi moves motion for NNPC floating stations resuscitation

Member representing Burutu Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Julius G. Pondi today moved a motion for the resuscitation of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, floating stations in the coastal communities of the Niger Delta. 

The motion was seconded by Hon. Adedapo Dauda Kako Lam-Adesina, member representing Ibadan North- East/South- East Federal Constituency.

While moving the motion at the floor of the house, Hon. Pondi said petroleum products floating stations established by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in the coastal communities of the Niger-Delta was the only source of petroleum products supply to these communities up till mid 2015.

According to him, discontinuation of supplies to the floating stations by the NNPC two years ago has been inflicting hardship and impoverishing inhabitants of the coastal towns and villages.

He added that the discontinuation has been making operators of marine transport go in search of fuel in distant places in the hinterlands, stressing that this has consequently resulted in high cost of marine transportation and its attendant hike in prices of goods and services in the area.

His words, “Aware that the sudden discontinuation of supplies to the floating stations about two years ago is inflicting hardship and impoverishing the inhabitants of the coastal towns and villages from where the very petroleum products that have seized to be delivered by the NNPC to the floating stations are drilled from.”

The House in its deliberation resolved that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation resume supply of products to the floating stations, and that the products be sold at the official rates obtainable nation wide.
