Gunmen kill Ijaw youth leader in Delta

Unknown gunmen have reportedly killed an Ijaw youth leader along Udu Road, in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

It was learnt that the deceased, who was the National Spokesman for the Ijaw Interest Advocate, a.k.a, Izanzan Camp, Mr. Famous Belief Wonikiri-Ebi, was allegedly shot dead.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday evening.

The National Coordinator of Ijaw Interest Advocate, Izanzan Camp, Yerinmene Salaco, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone.

He said, “The deceased and I have been receiving threat calls and text messages from an unknown number.

“I cannot say exactly if the people who killed him are armed robbers, assassins, or gunmen. But whoever has done this should be fished out and prosecuted by the relevant security agencies, especially the police.

“I called his wife and she said gunmen shot him in the neck.

“The matter has been reported at the police station. The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.”

When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident.

She said, “Yes, it is confirmed. The man was shot because he resisted them from attacking him. His vehicle was taken away from him.”
