A Niger Delta based group, the Niger Delta Comprehensive Peace Movement, NDCPM, have today called on both the Itsekiri and Ijaw ethnic nationalities in Delta State to shield their swords and embrace peace.
The group made the appeal in a statement sent to Gbaramatu Voice Newspaper through its President, Dr. Ebi Alakiri and Engr. Sunday Abai secretary respectively.
The statement advises citizens of both ethnic nationalities not to make inflammatory comments that are capable of igniting tension between the two ethnic groups in Delta State.
NDCPM, reveals that the underdevelopment of the Niger Delta and the lack of infrastructure within the areas where not occasioned by any of the ethnic groups, stressing that their grievances should be channeled at the multinational oil companies operating within the said area.
According to the group, it noted that It is high time that citizens of both ethnic groups apply diplomacy to address issues bothering on false claimant of land and landed properties while calling for peace.
The statement urges the leadership of Itsekiri nation and that of Ijaws mostly from the Gbaramatu enclave to caution their subjects not to breach the fragile peace that is existing between the seemingly hostile tribes.
“The under development, unemployment, environmental pollution, lack of social amenities, inadequate infrastructure and abject poverty is not caused by any of these ethnic nationality; it is high time we notice our common enemy and stand for for our rights and fight these monsters that calls themselves oil companies.” The group stated.
