•As 17 years old Victory Mike crowned Benikrukru Carnival Queen 2017
Call it a carnival, a funfair or a combination of both, you may not be far from the truth as the le de la crème in the society within Delta State and beyond on the 25th day of December, 2017 gathered at Benikrukru community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State to grace the Annual Benikrukru Carnival.
The event which was the tenth edition in the series and also doubled as a day slated for the unveiling and crowning of the Miss Benikrukru Carnival Queen (MBCQ) had very notable stars in attendance such as the likes of Chief Rachel Oniga, Shawn George, Hilda Dokubo, Chacha Nkechi, Monica Friday, Charles Inojie, Samuel Adebola known as Spiff, I Go Laugh, I Go Dye, among others.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the community, Mr. Godwin Olufemi told the gathering that the dual occasion is strategic as the 2017 carnival marks the 10th anniversary of the Benikrukru Annual Carnival which commenced in the year 2007.
The elated Chairman while speaking with GbaramatuVoice explained that the carnival was organized to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Benikrukru community and Gbaramatu Kingdom in general.
Other reasons according to him include to systematically empower the girl child and get them exposed to the modern way of living, as well as assisting them in both talent and career development.
On her part, Mrs Esther Tonlagha, the founder, Esther Tonlagha Foundation while speaking with GbaramatuVoice expressed satisfaction with the turn out of the event adding that the standard is improving on a daily basis and prayed for journey mercy for all the people that graced the occasion.
On the Miss Benikrukru beauty pageant, GbaramatuVoice gathered that Miss Mike Victory emerged as the 2017 winner of the keenly contested position which had fourteen elegant looking girls in the contest, a title that earned a handsome reward.
Responding, Mike Victory, the winner of the Miss Benikrukru Beauty Carnival Queen (MBCQ) 2017 expressed gratitude, joy and appreciation to God as well as to the organizers of the programme for the wonderful opportunity.
Meanwhile, Miss Jennifer Eriomah, Gloria Uti, and Titon Denyefa emerged as the MBCQ 2017 First, Second and Third runners-up respectively during the contest.
In a related development, Mr. Matthew Tonlagha received an Award of Excellence as presented by the National Association of Odimodi Students for his selfless contribution towards the development of Gbaramatu Kingdom, and an Award of Recognition as the most generous individual in the kingdom presented by the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Gbaramatu Chapter.
Also present at the event include the Queen of Gbaramatu Kingdom; representative from Chevron Nigeria Limited; Engr. Matthew Tonlagha and Mrs Esther Tonlagha; Chief Godspower Gbenekama, the Ibe-Benemowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom among others.
