GbaramatuVoice recalls that as part of plans to curb youth restiveness in the Niger Delta, the federal government initiated the PAP program where it granted scholarships to many Niger Delta youths.
However, it appears that the scheme has been mirrred in corruption and controversy as some of the students on Friday during their protest made it clear that they have been paying fees, dues like the private students. They even paid for the admission form, with some paying N300, 000, N150, 000 and even more.
The leader of the protesting Gbaramatu student, Patrick stated that the students paid N150,000, N300,000 and even N900,000 to a militant general and after they have been financially milked, they were told by relevant authority that they are “unverified students”.
As of the time of filing this report, the students are still protesting at the school premises and the school management is yet to find an acceptable solution to their worries.
