Prominent dignitaries storm Ofunama town in Edo state, as late Mama Comfort Yeh Gbasin goes home in grand style
Friends and family of the immediate past Executive Director of Projects, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Pastor Philip Gbasin and his other siblings came from all across the world to Egbema Kingdom in Ovia South Local Government Area of Edo State to register their love and support for the Gbasin family as their matriarch, Late Mama Comfort Yeh Gbasin nee Awuno was laid to rest in Ofunama town.
The funeral programme which began with a service of songs on Wednesday, the 20th of January in Sapele at her residence along Okpe road attracted dignitaries and people of means and substance to Ofunama.
In fact, the ceremonial procession from the Okparavero Memorial Hospital, on Friday January 22, where the deceased was embalmed in a Motor Cade through Pontu Waterside to her hometown in Ofunama, Egbema Kingdom was grand and filled with pomp.
The golden casket was stylishly balanced on the shoulders of the pallbearers all the way to the deceased hometown as the pallbearers engaged in a coordinated dance steps that appealed to musical aesthetics.
Expectedly, the burial service turned out to be a grand affair given Gbasin’s wide-reaching political influence and popularity among his colleagues in the political circle and the social circuit that turned out in their numbers to show love to the Gbasin’s family.
The burial ceremonies which took place at the residence of the matriarch of the Gbasin’s family started with a funeral service with joyous hymnals and glorious testimonials about the late mother who passed on to glory July 25, 2020 at aged 120, who many family members and acquaintances affirmed was a woman of dignity, role model and an epitome of hard work.
The service was conducted by Pastor Olowo Stephen Olorunwa and other ministers from Redeemed Christian Church of God, after which the deceased was committed to earth in her residence amid emotional scenes.
Thereafter, a carnival-like atmosphere unfolded at the christian wakekeep where guests were pampered endlessly till dawn.
Ijaw christian music star, Golly Pat, was on hand to electrify the atmosphere. For the rest of the night, Golly’s evergreen lyrical lines wafted festively in the air. It was praise singing and dancing galore.
