Education has been described as a powerful tool that as the capacity to unleash the potential and greatness in a man.
Delta State Acting Governor, Barrister Kingsley Otuaro disclosed this at the weekend during the 4th convention of the National Association of Gbaramatu Students, NAGS, held at Kurutie take-off campus of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Gbaramatu kingdom.
Speaking under the convention theme “Scholarship for Niger Deltans: A Veritable Tool For Regional Emancipation”, the Acting Governor said relevance of education cannot be over-emphasized hence the theme was apt.
Barrister Otuaro who said the present administration in the State has rivived 3 out of the 6 technical schools in the State because of the importance the Okowa-led administration attached to education, particularly technical education, congratulated the outgoing executives for a successful tenure and a work well done.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the occasion, Chief Favour Izuokumor stated that students unionism is a avenue through which young people exhibits their leadership skills, hence the brains behind the formation of NAGS must be applauded.
While describing students unionism as a tool of grooming leaders, the Commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality at Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, DESOPADEC, urged students present at the ocassion to face their studies squally and desist from any form of act that is inimical to the kingdom and Nigeria at large.
Earlier in his speech, outgoing president of NAGS, Comrade Seiyefa Ekpemupolo said his agenda as president was to unite and revitalize NAGS, saying, with the help of God and his team he achieved that to a large extent.
Rolling out his achievements, Comrade Seiyefa said his team successful acquired a land at Oporoza for the construction of a 20 rooms multi-purpose guests house and 1500 capacity hall with architectural designs and building plans.
He said the modalities that brought 2015/2016 corps members to the kingdom was also part of his team achievements though in collaboration with Gbaramatu Education Support Forum.
