Delta is the largest producer of crude oil in Nigeria with nothing to show for – YPP Governorship Candidate

The Delta state governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Dr. Sunny Ofehe, has said that the state is the largest producer of crude oil in Nigeria but has not been adequately rewarded for these enormous contributions to the national development, noting that if elected, he will reverse the trend in the first hundred days of his administration.

Ofehe stated this on Sunday during an interactive session put together by GbaramatuVoice for governorship candidates on its social media platform.

While noting that Nigeria contributes 10% of Shell total global profit and yet Delta as a state makes no penny from that amount of money.

Ofehe boasted that if elected, he will harness the natural resources in the state, match it with human capital development in ways that will see Delta state become the 7th largest economy in the Sub-Sahara Africa.

In his words, “I am pretty confident because I know God has blessed us, we are the gateway to the South-South region of this country, we are the gateway to the South-East region of this country, we have four under functioning seaports that we are not taking advantage of. Just recently, the Oil multinationals company globally made a whooping 260billion dollars in profit from crude oil, thanks to the war in Ukraine and in Russia and Shell itself, you know, made 38billion dollars, in their 101 years history.

“This is a record breaking performance and my state (Delta) is currently the largest producer of crude oil in Nigeria, making Nigeria the 8th largest exporter of crude oil in the OPEC market and therefore Shell as it is, Nigeria contribute 10% of Shell total global profit and yet my state did not make a penny from that amount of money.”

Asked how he hopes to tackle the present challenge, the human right activist turned politicians said “In my first 100 days in office, I am going to sit down with the Executives of the International Oil Companies (IOC’s), I am going to discuss with them, I’m going to tell them the need for them to bring back their corporate headquarters because I will need Internally Generated Revenue from their Corporate taxes and their income taxes. We need to look into that.”

‘’We will look into the area of insecurity which they have been using as an excuse and we will see how we can tackle it to the level where we can have this alliance that we can bring back our state to becoming that state that it used to be when Shell was contributing 20,000 work force directly or indirectly to the economy of Warri as a Kingdom,” he concluded.
