King Timiyan explained that four governors have ruled the state and two which are for the Delta Central (the urhobos) one from Itsekiri and one from the Anioma nation.

He hinted that the Ijaw extraction are always there as their brother’s keeper to support and encourage various ethnic groups en masse without bias and complain to produce the state governors.

According to his statement : “the purpose of our visit very brief, it is about Delta State. We, traditional rulers, are in political era, we are in a democratic system where governorship from tenure to tenure, and those that are interested will come out for people to vote for them.

“It is normal that parents need to protect their children interest and we, the traditional rulers, also it is our duty to protect the interest of our subjects. We are the third nationality in Delta State from urhobos, Anioma and Ijaws.

“We supported Chief Onanefe Ibori, Udughan and Ifeanyi Okowa, and they succeeded by our massive votes.

“We, the traditional rulers, deem it fit that now some of our sons and daughters are indicating interest, we should go round to meet our colleagues so that they can speak to their people, political class, leaders and politicians to support one of our subjects, the one they feel that can rule the state very well like Governor Okowa.

“Our mission today is to come and appeal to HRM to talk to his subjects, palace chiefs, everybody in Anioma including the governor to support us,” he added.

However, the Asagba of Asaba, while responding to the request, expressed delight for their visit to the palace, that the visit should have started 80-90 years ago, saying the basis of governance is to adopt peace and development that they (Anioma) support the principle of rotation to avoid query.
