CEPEJ calls for peace between farmers/herders in Delta
The Centre For Peace And Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) in collaboration with Foundation for Partnership Initiatives In The Niger Delta (PIND), has called for peace between farmers and herders in Delta State.
The groups made this known on Thursday, March 30, 2023, in their stakeholder’s round table dialogue in Ughelli, with the theme: Mitigating Herders-Farmer’s conflict management for sustainable peace, and development project.
Speaking at the meeting, CEPEJ National Coordinator and Country Director, Chief Sheriff Mulade, stated that peace is necessary before development can take place.
Mulade said: “Imagine there is war today those in Warri cannot come to Ughelli and those in Ughelli cannot come to Warri, so we need to seek for peace at all times and say no to war.”
Also, speaking at the event, Mr I. Elisha, the officer in charge of DSS, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, talked about the need for peaceful co-existence between the farmers and herders in the community.
According to him, the aim of the gathering was to look at the issues affecting both the farmers and the herders with the aim of resolving the issues in order to promote harmonious existence between farmers and herders.
Also speaking, Ben Avre of the National Orientation Agency was of the view that peace is the collective responsibility of everybody and not every Fulani herder that carries a cutlass is a killer.
