A massive explosion late Monday night engulfed a section of the Trans-Niger Pipeline at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State, sending plumes of thick smoke into the sky.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, but authorities are investigating whether it was an act of sabotage or equipment failure. This incident comes at a time of heightened tension in Rivers State, following threats by militant groups after the Federal Government withheld the state’s allocation due to the ongoing political crisis.
According to reports, the explosion occurred late Monday night, affecting a critical section of the export pipeline that transports crude to the Bonny Terminal. The pipeline is a key infrastructure for Nigeria’s oil exports, raising concerns about potential disruptions to crude production.
Emergency response teams are currently working to contain the fire, while security agencies have been deployed to the area to prevent further damage.
