BAYELSA 2023: IDC, Ijaw leaders to conduct debates for governorship candidates
The Ijaw Diaspora Council (IDC) and prominent Ijaw leaders in Nigeria have agreed to organise a debate for the forthcoming 2023 gubernatorial election in Bayelsa state.
This was made known in a statement signed by Dr. Edward Agbai, Secretary, Ijaw Diaspora Council, who stated that both the Ijaw Diaspora Council (IDC) and prominent Ijaw leaders met under the umbrella of Ijaw Elections Initiative on Saturday, May 13, 2023 agreeing to conduct debates for both the governors and their deputies.
The group also stated that the political aspirants will be engaged in town hall meetings to enable them share their ideas and their manifestoes to the people of Bayelsa.

Pointing out the significance of the debate, the group said: “We believe that the debates will provide us the opportunity to openly and freely address the challenging issues that are most significant to the people of Bayelsa State. We, therefore, urge all the Bayelsa Governorship Candidates to prepare for the Debate Series to answer publicly and on the record – about the issues that matter most to us in many areas, including human capacity building, wealth creation, sustainable economic democracy, political stability, and good governance.”
Those present at the meeting include: Professor Mondy Gold, President of Ijaw Diaspora Council and President, African Diaspora for Good Governance, New Jersey; Honorable Gesiere Dorgu Brisibe, Chairperson of Ijaw Diaspora Council; Madam Annkio Briggs; Founder and Director of the non-governmental organization Agape Birthrights; Dr. Marie Teibowei, Director Public Relations, Bayelsa Medical University, and IPA Homeland Chapter Executive; Dr. Antonia Garner, Head of Service and Approved Registered Practitioner United Kingdom and Vice President Ijaw Diaspora Council; Chief (Amb) Regina Yaboh, Vice President of the Americas, IDC; Dr. Festus Odubo, Director of Community Outreach, IDC and Vice President of the Platinum Touch Initiative.
