The Amalgamated Union of Public Cooperation’s, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employee (AUPCTRE) Bayelsa state chapter, has made history by electing a female leader to pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.
Comrade Ayibalayefa Gabriel, who emerged victorious, expressed satisfaction on the outcome of the process that brought her into leadership. She attributed it to the Lord’s doing.
Speaking on the outcome of the election, Comr. Gabriel said, “I never dreamt to chair an organization of this magnitude, that have great minds and people of high pedigree.
”I pray for the strength to consolidate on the successes of my predecessor. Unionism is all about working in unity and as such, I will create a room to reconcile with all the supporters and candidates who were aggrieved because of thr outcome of the election.
“If we don’t work in one as a team, the chances of succeeding may be thwarted.” She added.
The out gone Chairman, Nabodi Ekenah while addressing some journalists, shortly after the election, advised the winners to think and listen to the voices of the people they serve, if they must succeed.
Mr. Ekena explained that the union’s Secretariat is 99% completed amongst other notable achievements, saying a leader is a servant and not a master.
Ekena noted that, the idea of having a Secretariat came as a result of inconveniences, members have whenever, the union holds its national conferences and union meetings at the state level.
Some aggrieved members who attempted, to disrupt the process, while swiftly repelled Nigeria by some Policemen and operatives of the National Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, who were on ground at the venue if the event, which otherwise, went smoothly as planned by the organizers.
