Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, have expressed confidence that Delta State will fall under the APC’s control in the 2027 general elections, just as Edo State has begun to experience what they described as “practical governance” under APC leadership.
The duo spoke over the weekend in Agbor, Delta State, while receiving members of the Delta Unity Group (DUG), who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Addressing party supporters, Governor Okpebholo noted that the wave of defections in both Edo and Delta signaled a broader movement that would further solidify President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election in 2027.
“It is our turn to shine in the South South. It is now your turn in Delta. What happened in Edo is now happening here. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing very well. He is repairing the foundation of the nation for lasting prosperity,” Okpebholo said.
He also commended the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chiedu Ebie, for providing leadership and a platform for the DUG to join the APC.
“Chiedu is an intelligent young man who knows the right time to act. It is time for Delta to move forward, and this movement starts here, with the Ika people,” he added.
Receiving the new members, APC National Chairman Ganduje described the DUG as “true democrats” and praised their decision to align with the ruling party.
“We have the three Senators from Delta. We have members of the House of Representatives, and State Assembly members. Over 60 percent of PDP followers in Delta have now joined the APC. We are confident of winning this state in the next election,” Ganduje declared.
He emphasized the need for party unity: “With the calibre of politicians in the Delta APC, what we need now is unity—unity of purpose to deliver victory and good governance to the people.”
Ganduje also revealed plans to convene a stakeholders’ meeting to consolidate the strength of the party’s leadership in the state and chart a clear path to victory.
On his part, NDDC Board Chairman Chiedu Ebie said the decision of the DUG to join the APC stemmed from a desire for effective governance and inclusiveness, values they believe President Tinubu embodies.
Earlier, during a visit to the Palace of the Dein of Agbor, His Royal Majesty Dr. Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi I, the monarch urged President Tinubu to prioritise peace and security across the country, noting that these were vital for national development.
Also present at the rally were Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko; Chairperson, House Committee on NDDC, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu; former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, among other key APC leaders.
