President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reconstituted the Governing Council and Board of Trustees of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYREP), with the Minister of Environment serving as Chairman of the Council.
Among the newly appointed members is Hon. Beauty Warejuowei, APC Woman Leader in Delta South Senatorial District, who will serve as one of the representatives of the Niger Delta on the Council.
Other members of the Council include Loanyie Barituka Victor, representing environmental NGOs; Bright Onyebuchi Jacob and Henry Obiabure, representing Niger Delta communities; Professor Barinedum Michael Nwibere and Barrister Baride Abdul Gwezia, representing the Ogoni community; as well as Gideon Onyebuwa Melfor and Dr. Ibikunle Omotehinse, representing the nine oil-producing states.
Alternate members representing Ogoniland are Rev. Canon Dr. Abraham Olungwe, who was reappointed, and Engr. Maeba Power Ekpobari. Joseph Akedesuo joins Hon. Beauty Warejuowei as alternate representatives for the Niger Delta.
For the Board of Trustees, President Tinubu reappointed Emmanuel Nwiika Deeyah as Chairman. Other members include Fred Mbombo Igwe and Dr. Fred Barivule Kpakol for Ogoni communities, Mrs. Dorcas Amos for other Niger Delta communities, and Chief Jide Damazio, who was reappointed as representative for environmental NGOs.
The appointments were announced in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
